In that Empire, Uncertainty was no longer tolerated. And so the Art of Snow Pit digging finally attained such Perfection that the Resolution became the problem. One snow pit per Mountain range proved insufficient, leading to one snow pit per drainage, leading to one per slope, which led to one snowpit per ski turn on each slope. This naturally ruined the skiing, but the Committee agreed that this was only a small inconvenience in the pursuit of Absolute Certainty.

The following Generations saw that the vast display was Useless, and not without some Pitilessness was it, that they delivered it up to the Inclemencies of Winter. In the Mountains of the West, still today, there are Tattered Ruins of Snow Pit books, inhabited by Animals and Beggars; in all the Land there is no other Relic of the Disciplines of Folly.
