A Ski Guide and an Epidemiologist Walk into a Bar

The Covid pandemic was fascinating in so many ways in terms of risk management and risk communication. There were so many parallels with the guiding and forecasting worlds. To keep with the cartoon theme (last week's Safer Than You), I am reprinting a three frame cartoon I had published in The Avalanche Review during the pandemic. I was able to talk Cy Whitling into illustrating my conversations between Shred and Jerry. I hope you like them.

Around the same time, I recorded a conversation with Dr. Angela Dunn. Dr. Dunn was the Utah state epidemiologist during the pandemic and was tapped by the governor as the point person during those uncertain times. She knows a bit about the bottom line, vulnerability, and exposure. I found Dr. Dunn to be smart, tough, funny and - most importantly - real. She's not a politician. A Meditation on Ego
